Reflection (I)
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about a particular movie scene (Men in Black, 1997).
1,500 years ago, everybody knew that the Earth was the center of the universe. 500 years ago, everybody knew that the Earth was flat. And 15 minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you’ll know tomorrow. (Agent K)
Not because of the aliens/UFO thing. But because of how some of the things that we believe to be fundamental truths (not mathematics axioms, but almost written in stone) may turn out to be, in the end, ambiguous or directly wrong.
Apart from that, after spending some days in the house where my ancestors lived a century ago, it’s inevitable to reflect on the speed of change, on how a lot of things have evolved (a lot for good, but also some for bad), and how there are some things that are so hardcoded in human nature that they will never change.
